Several years ago, Doug, the founder of Caddieapp, encountered a challenge while playing a new course. Despite using a popular golf app on his Apple Watch, he faced discrepancies in functionality. The app displayed distances based on the phone's location (in his golf bag on the cart) rather than his actual position. Moreover, the absence of course maps on his watch meant he had to frequently resort to checking his phone for distances to various hazards.

This experience served as the catalyst for an innovative solution. Why not develop an app tailored exclusively for the Apple Watch that operated independently of the phone?

During the off-season, Doug embarked on this venture, overcoming hurdles posed by the watch's compact screen and limited battery life. As the app took shape, emphasis was placed on enhancing usability. A significant portion of that winter was dedicated to testing prototypes in the snow-clad golf courses of Western New York to ensure that the app combined functionality with user-friendliness.

With the arrival of Spring came the inception of Caddieapp; a pragmatic alternative to specialized golf watches and expensive subscription-based applications, harnessing the capabilities of the Apple Watch that are already possessed by many golf enthusiasts.
